Thome Tomato
Starting in 1989 as a rave D.J. and promoter in San Diego, Thome Tomato never did stop moving on the dance floor, behind the decks or throwing events. He helped with events such as Narnia, Grape Ape, Double Hit Mickey, XLR8 and San Diego’s first Moonlight Massive with D.J. Dan.
In his tireless efforts to bring electronic music to the rest of the United States, Thome Tomato moved to Cincinnati to throw rave events in 1990. He threw the first Rave in the mid-west region of the U.S. playing with Richie Hawtin and John Auquavia. It was not long after that that he decided to throw an event with Moby, Plastic Man, Keoki, Doc Martin, and himself. The event was a huge success and helped him to get more gigs in other major cities in North America. After that Thome traveled to many cities, playing in clubs including the Factory in Detroit, Motor in Chicago and dozens of raves, showcasing his unique rave style of D.J.ing. After taking a break to go to school in Kentucky in 1997, he decided to move back to his native home of Los Angeles in 1999. In 2000 he hooked up with Spundae and began to spin for them in their Hollywood location. He had loads of fun spinning in a club environment, but that was still not enough. This was a great time to be back in L.A. Raves were larger than ever. One party he was at had over 30000 and they went crazy. This was finally what he was looking for, but it was short lived. In 2004 the American Government passed the R.A.V.E act (Reducing America’s Vulnerability to Ecstasy), a law that eventually put a stop to the rave scene in America, effectively sending many D.J.’s into hiding like Jedi Knights escaping from the evil Darth Bush. By this time Thome had switched from spinning Techno to Breakbeat because he had more fun behind the decks with this style of music, saying “this is where the real fun is” and he proves it every time he gets on the wheels of steel.
In 2007 Thome had heard of a place where the music was still fresh and the scene was still growing. This place was China. So in late 2007, Thome packed up his turntables and grabbed his vinyl and moved to the other side of the world to share his unique style of D.J.ing with Chinese audiences. Since he has been in China he has received a great response from the people of Beijing at White Rabbit, Club Obiwan, China Doll and Coca-Cola. He’s happy to make them go nuts again and again!
